Dear Girl Scouts San Diego Community,
Our hearts are with everyone affected by the recent flooding in Texas, especially our fellow Girl Scouts and the community at Camp Mystic. We are holding them close in our thoughts during this difficult time.
Camp is a one-of-a-kind place where girls can disconnect from technology and reconnect with nature and the supportive community of sisterhood. There is a special energy in the air at our San Diego County properties—Balboa Campus, Escondido Program Center, and Camps Whispering Oaks and Winacka in Julian. This summer, more than 1,500 girls will explore nature, cook over campfires, dive into hands-on STEM activities, and so much more.
Protecting the safety of our campers, staff, and properties is a top priority. Significant enhancements to our properties are already underway, including a comprehensive forestry management plan to reduce wildfire risk, and the reconstruction of our spillway, which has proven critical in shielding the area during recent severe storms.
These safety improvements require substantial investment, and we are deeply grateful to those who have already contributed. I invite you to support this vital work by making a donation to help safeguard our camps for years to come.
While sleepaway camp is coming to an end, spots are open for upcoming day and the new family camp sessions. Financial aid is available thanks to our generous supporters, and prior Girl Scout membership is not required to attend. Visit sdgirlscouts.org/camp to learn more and register.
This season has also given us moments of celebration and pride as we honored 218 Cadettes and 62 Seniors and Ambassadors at our recent Silver and Gold Award Ceremonies. These changemakers earned our highest awards by completing impactful, sustainable, “Take Action” projects that make the world a better place. I am so proud of these remarkable leaders!
Looking ahead, we have exciting events on the horizon. I encourage all volunteers and adults to attend our Volunteer Conference on Saturday, Aug. 16 for a day of learning, networking, and fun. This is a great opportunity to build skills, connect with others, and deepen your Girl Scout experience.
And, save the date for 2025 Urban Campout: Defying Gravity on Friday, Sept. 12! At this adult-only ‘fun fundraiser,’ experience a sparkling, Wicked-themed celebration while raising funds to support the next generation of leaders. Click your heels, ease on down the yellow brick road, and join us as your favorite character from the land of Oz—or simply dazzle in bold emeralds and whimsical pinks. Tables and sponsorships are available now. Learn more at sdgirlscouts.org/urbancampout.
Thank you for being an essential part of our Girl Scout community. With your support, we are building a generation of courageous, confident leaders, ready to make the world a better place.
Yours in Girl Scouting,
Carol
